Unitarity and the time evolution of quantum mechanical states.

چکیده
The basic requirement that, in quantum theory, the time-evolution of any state is determined by the action of a unitary operator, is shown to be the underlying cause for certain “exact” results which have recently been reported about the time-dependence of transition rates in quantum theory. Departures from exponential decay, including the “Quantum Zeno Effect”, as well as a theorem by Khalfin about the ratio of reciprocal transition-rates, are shown to follow directly from such considerations. At sufficiently short times, unitarity requires that reciprocity must hold, independent of whether T -invariance is valid. If T -invariance does not hold, unitarity restricts the form of possible time-dependence of reciprocity ratios. E-mail address: [email protected] E-mail address: [email protected]

The Quantum Statistical Mechanical Theory of Transport Processes
A new derivation of the quantum Boltzmann transport equation for the Fermion system from the quantum time evolution equation for the wigner distribution function is presented. The method exhibits the origin of the time - irreversibility of the Boltzmann equation. In the present work, the spin dependent and indistinguishibility of particles are also considered.
متن کاملObserving the Spontaneous Breakdown of Unitarity
During the past decade, the experimental development of being able to create ever larger and heavier quantum superpositions has brought the discussion of the connection between microscopic quantum mechanics and macroscopic classical physics back to the forefront of physical research. Under equilibrium conditions this connection is in fact well understood in terms of the mechanism of spontaneous...
متن کاملNoncommutative Dipole Field Theories And Unitarity
We extend the argument of Gomis and Mehen for violation of unitarity in field theories with space-time noncommutativity to dipole field theories. In dipole field theories with a timelike dipole vector, we present 1-loop amplitudes that violate the optical theorem. A quantum mechanical system with nonlocal potential of finite extent in time also shows violation of unitarity.

The effect of increasing quantum bits and Unruh effect on quantum Prisoners’ dilemma has been investigated for both entangled and unentangled initial states. The Nash equilibrium, as an important result of quantum game theory, was obtained through the different payoffs resulted from choosing various strategies. It has been shown that the non-inertial frame disturbs the symmetry of the game. Act...
متن کاملQuantum Gravity and Non-unitarity in Black Hole Evaporation
We discuss the relevance of quantum gravitational corrections to the functional Schrödinger equation for the information loss paradox in black hole evaporation. These corrections are found from the Wheeler-DeWitt equation through a semiclassical expansion scheme. The dominant contribution in the final evaporation stage, when the black hole approaches the Planck regime, is a term which explicitl...
